This gathering will bring together industry experts, experienced professionals, caregivers, and families to share proven methods, expert‑led guidance, and meaningful resources—fostering education, connection, and collective support for the dementia care journey.

  • Dr. Jennifer Yokoyama

    Dr. Yokoyama is a Professor in the UCSF Department of Neurology and in Radiology & Biomedical Imaging, and the Mary Oakley Foundation Endowed Professor in Neurodegeneration. She has expertise in neurogenetics, genomics, transcriptomics, neuroimaging, statistics, bioinformatics, and clinical research of neurodegenerative disease. In addition, Dr. Yokoyama leads the UCSF Alzheimer Disease Research Center’s (ADRC) Biomarker Core and is a faculty member in the Global Brain Health Institute. Dr. Yokoyama was recognized for her role in mentoring by receiving the inaugural Alzheimer’s Association Excellence in Neuroscience Mentoring Award.

  • Rachael Martinez & Maria Kent Beers

    Co-hosts Rachel Martinez and Maria Beers founded the Remember Me Podcast to generate awareness of dementia, specifically FTD, and this passion project has grown to foster a community of connectedness and understanding where people feel seen and heard. Remember Me helps families navigating neurodegenerative disease and feel less alone, connecting listeners across the country. Rachael is a trained Marriage and Family Therapist with a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology. She is also a Certified Grief Support Specialist and grief educator.

  • Dr. Beverly E. Thorn

    Dr. Thorn is the author of hundreds of articles, two books, and four workbooks on coping with chronic illness. She spent decades as a faculty member at The Ohio State University and The University of Alabama, where she went on to serve as director of the clinical psychology PhD program and department chair in psychology. Currently professor emerita, she is also a certified end-of-life doula and continues to publish, speak, and conduct workshops nationally and internationally on managing chronic illness.

  • Isabella Marini

    Isabella Marini is the Senior Associate Director of the Center for Dementia Respite Innovation at the Alzheimer’s Association, overseeing a national grant program that supports innovative respite care models. She has over a decade of experience in nonprofit project management, specializing in program implementation, operations, and building partnerships to support community-based initiatives. Isabella holds degrees from Cleveland State University and Indiana Wesleyan University. 

  • Dr. Hedva Barenholtz Levy

    Dr. Levy is a geriatric pharmacy specialist and founder of HbL PharmaConsulting, a senior care pharmacy practice in St. Louis, Missouri, to help patients, families, and professionals navigate safe medication use as we get older. Dr. Levy is adjunct faculty at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and maintains board certifications in pharmacotherapy and geriatric pharmacy. Dr. Levy received her PharmD degree from the University of Michigan.

  • Dr. Krystle Irvine

    Dr. Irvine is a geriatric medicine specialist with Sutter Health in Goleta, California. She completed her medical degree at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in 2021, followed by a residency in family medicine at Kaiser Permanente Southern California, Woodland Hills, from 2021 to 2024. Dr. Irvine further specialized in geriatric medicine with a fellowship at Kaiser Permanente Southern California in Los Angeles, completed in 2025. She holds a BS in Human Development and Aging obtained magna cum laude from the University of Southern California.

Location: The Leta Hotel, 5650 Calle Real, Goleta, CA 93117 (ADA accessible)
Time: 8:30am -4:00pm
Parking: Complimentary on-site parking available.

Arrival: The hotel is conveniently located just off US-101 and approximately 5-7 minutes from Santa Barbara Airport (SBA). From US-101 North, take the Patterson Avenue exit; from US-101 South, take the Fairview Avenue exit. Public transportation is available via nearby Santa Barbara MTD stops, and rideshare services provide a convenient and direct way to travel to the venue from the airport and surrounding areas.

Attendees should plan to arrive by 8:15am for check-in, refreshments, networking, and the welcome session that will begin promptly at 8:30am.

The Day: Enjoy a full day of learning and connection through five expert-led workshops, dual-track programming for family caregivers and professionals, a summit panel, reflection and mindfulness spaces, refreshment breaks, networking opportunities, and lunch at CAYA Restaurant.

Who should attend? Everyone is welcome! This event is for family caregivers and care partners, healthcare professionals including nurses, social workers, psychologists, and physicians, as well as researchers, students, community members, and professionals from any field who want to better support individuals and families impacted by dementia.
