Friendship Center Awarded Grant from Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara to Expand Transportation Services for Older Adults Living with Dementia

I had volunteered there with my dogs for years never imagining that I would be my Dad’s caregiver. The Friendship Center provides respite for caregivers, but most importantly provides members a joyous haven with many different activities. Yes, it can be difficult to entrust your loved one to others. But as Kathryn says, “trust the process”.
I cherish my memories of dancing with my dad.

There is always genuine excitement and a smile at drop off which puts my dad at ease immediately. The creative social interactions and activities they provide make this a wonderful place for anybody, young or old, to want to attend. They also provide support for the caregivers too. From passing on helpful information regarding support services, or making connections for families to support one another, to even just offering a listening ear or a hug.

Watching the staff was really an eye-opener for me. Every time one of the staff walked by a member, the smiles of delight, small comments of praise, a simple light touch as they talked or danced with the members showed me just how much love and compassion this staff has for the members under their care.

Friendship Center offers highly trained and compassionate care for Veterans and other Seniors in need of Adult Day Care Services. The care provided by the Friendship Center gives caregivers an opportunity to have the much needed time to take care of other requirements of life and to enjoy a much needed break from constant attention required by their loved ones.
