On Thursday, August 27th , Friendship Center held its second ever Drive-In Activity Hour at the Montecito site. The event, which was Luau themed, saw over twenty cars holding roughly forty guests in attendance. Members of our community, most of them being caregivers, brought their senior loved ones to Friendship Center’s tropically decorated parking lot for live yet socially distanced activities while remaining in their cars. Most of the seniors attended Friendship Center’s day program prior to the pandemic forcing the center’s closure, so it was a special treat for them to see the familiar faces of friends and staff. Friendship Center staff led attendees in carefully spaced cars through seated exercises, asked Hawaiian themed trivia questions, told jokes and even performed a choreographed huiklau hula for all to enjoy! Highlights of the event included local musicians playing international songs on their accordions as well as the spectacle of dressed up doggies! John Siegel-Boettner, a beloved figure of the seniors at Friendship Center, showed up with his Cycling Without Age trishaw and booming laugh. In the ongoing effort to remain adaptable in these changing times and responsive to emerging needs, Friendship Center is committed to fostering the sense of community amongst our seniors and will continue to do whatever it takes to keep our friends smiling!
